As cancer costs have skyrocketed, physicians have begun to treat the severe financial distress associated with a cancer diagnosis as a new health problem, known as cancer-related financial toxicity.

CENTS has partnered with The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (the Hutch) and the Patient Advocate Foundation (PAF) to study financial toxicity resulting from a cancer diagnosis and how to address this issue.

Together with the Hutch and PAF, CENTS has created a navigation program for patients with cancer, pairing patients with financial counselors, who help patients proactively manage their cancer costs with the goal of reducing the financial stress that has become the norm for cancer patients.

CENTS continues to research and develop comprehensive programming aimed at understanding and reducing financial toxicity.
